Egelsbach, January, 2009 As mentioned in the end-of-show report for Domotex Hannover 2009, the companies of the carpet and floor covering industry are confident and optimistic in their expectations for this year, trusting in innovation and creativity. Fleissner GmbH shares this confidence, and presented a process for latex-free coating of carpet backs at the recent trade fair. Fleissner has been supplying equipment and individual machines for finishing of tufted and woven carpets for decades and is well known in the industry as a reliable manufacturer of high-quality machinery. Taking up the idea of latex-free coating for carpet backs from its customers, Fleissner decided last year, after carefully examining various technologies, to enhance the process of applying hot-melt adhesive by means of a flat die. After settling all patent issues, the process was optimized on a pilot line in record time so that it is possible today to apply latex-free adhesive to both tufted and woven carpets made of PA, PP, PET and wool, and add a reinforcing back. Since the process was presented to the public for the first time in September 2008, technical solutions were found for the issues of antistatic and flame-retardant properties. The presented samples
were received by carpet producers with great enthusiasm and judged to
be the best carpet fabrics presently available, especially with respect
to bonding of individual fibers. Line concepts saving up to 90% of the
energy used in latex process lines can be offered for all kinds of fabric
qualities, so that there is nothing to prevent their commercial use
already this year.
